The French-Speaking Icons Collection
An American-French dancer and singer, she embodied the vibrancy of black American culture and captivated Paris in the 1920s. Her debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with "La Revue Nègre" introduced her "danse sauvage" and marked her rise to fame at the Folies-Bergère, famous for her iconic banana skirt. She became a naturalised French citizen in 1937.
