The Unstoppable Collection
Eleanor Roosevelt was First Lady for twelve years - longer than any other. She used every one of them.
She championed women in the workplace, civil rights for African and Asian Americans, refugees fleeing the Second World War. When Franklin died, she didn't step back. She kept going for another seventeen years.
The myth around her is inseparable from her image - the plain-looking, dutiful wife who turned out to be the most radical First Lady in American history.
No one before or since pushed the boundaries of the role as far. No one mixed private life and public life with the same audacity.
