Celebrities of Occitanie Collection

Born in Genoa, raised first in New Caledonia. France gave him hit after hit, "Mirza," "Le Sud," songs that became part of the national soundtrack.

In 1989, he recorded his own version of "La Marseillaise" with the choir of Montcuq, the small town near his home.

None of it ever satisfied him. He kept walking away from the music industry to paint instead, kept returning, kept doubting. He died by suicide at 63, two days before his birthday.

Some of the songs people love most were written by people who couldn't find their own peace.
